Key Symptoms of Covid-19
The Covid-19 virus has a range of symptoms, including:
- Fever
- Cough
- Loss of sense of smell or taste
If you have any of these symptoms, you should immediately get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
In addition, a percentage of Covid-19 positive patients are ‘asymptomatic’ meaning they do not show symptoms, but they may still be infectious. This is why self-isolation is important after exposure to the virus.
How to Minimise the Risk of Covid-19
There are a number of practices that you can implement to slow the spread of Covid-19, including:
- Abide by social distancing guidelines.
- Washing your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
- Maintaining good hygiene when coughing and sneezing.
- Avoiding unnecessary travel.
- Getting tested if you experience any symptoms.
- Avoiding contact with high-risk friends or family members.
- If you can, get vaccinated.
Knowing the Symptoms of Covid-19
The most prominent symptoms of Covid-19 are:
- High fever
- Persistent cough
- Loss of sense of smell or taste
If you show signs of any of the above symptoms, you should take a PCR test immediately and self-isolate until you receive a negative result to prevent the further spread of the infection.
There is also a chance that Covid-19 patients show no symptoms whatsoever, these people are referred to as ‘asymptomatic’. While symptoms are not present, patients may still be infected which is why self-isolating after exposure to the virus is pivotal to stopping the spread. Taking a regular Lateral Flow Test can be the most effective measure to combat the spread amongst asymptomatic patients.
Minimising the Risk of Covid-19
Keeping everyone safe is a collaborative effort. There are many ways you can personally combat the spread of Covid-19, including:
- Abide by social distancing guidelines.
- Washing your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
- Maintaining good hygiene when coughing and sneezing.
- Avoiding unnecessary travel.
- Getting tested if you experience any symptoms.
- Avoiding contact with high-risk friends or family members.
- If you can, get vaccinated.
